A Meeting for Concerned Presbyterians

by Jon Payne August 5, 2021

Yes, the meeting is still on.

The Meeting for Concerned PCA Ruling and Teaching Elders is still planned for September 25th, from 9:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m., in Greenville, South Carolina.

The 48th PCA General Assembly was a very encouraging one, especially for those committed to an unapologetically Reformed, Confessional, and Presbyterian vision for our almost half-century-old denomination. Many who have been troubled by the growing progressive trends within our churches, presbyteries, and agencies left St. Louis with renewed hope for the future of the PCA. The voting margins were surprisingly large. Therefore, it’s with renewed hope, mixed with ongoing concern about the influence of progressive Christianity, that the Gospel Reformation Network will host a meeting for concerned PCA teaching and ruling elders in late September. The one-day gathering in Greenville will take place at the historic Second Presbyterian Church. It’s a meeting that you’ll not want to miss, if you are able to attend.

The Agenda

  • Season of prayer, devotion, and soul-enriching fellowship.
  • Short informative presentations by GRN council members on overtures 14, 23, and 37.
  • Provide ruling elders with important information and encouragement.
  • Discuss and consider ways to promote biblical fidelity, confessional integrity, and faithfulness to the Great Commission.
  • GRN Panel Discussion (Q&A time) to consider serious matters facing the PCA, and appropriate measures of response.
  • Foster warm Christian fellowship over a catered lunch on the lovely campus of Second Presbyterian Church in the west end of Greenville [Cost: $15 – includes lunch!].

An Open Invitation

All PCA Teaching and Ruling elders are warmly invited to attend the meeting of concerned Presbyterians. While the GRN meetings, events, and communications continue to be public and transparent, due to space limitations we must restrict the meeting to PCA TE’s & RE’s only. Let me encourage each of you:

  • PCA Teaching Elders — Take a moment right now to mark your calendar and sign-up (see link below) for this important event. Also, invite a couple of ruling elders from your session to attend with you.
  • PCA Ruling Elders — Take a moment to mark your calendar and sign-up (see link below). Invite your pastor(s) and fellow ruling elders. It is strong ruling elder involvement that will, by no small measure, help to protect the PCA from the mire of theological progressivism in the future.
  • PCA Laypersons — Are you concerned about the future health of the PCA? Then forward this invitation to your pastor(s) and session of elders, and humbly encourage them to attend.

We scheduled the one-day meeting on a Saturday to encourage ruling elder attendance. Moreover, we’ve planned the meeting to end at 3:00 p.m. so that teaching elders can travel home for Lord’s Day services. We are presently considering a livestream option as well, for those who cannot attend in person.

I hope that you plan to join me, and the other GRN council members, on September 25th in Greenville. I very much look forward to seeing you there!

“Every Word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.” (Prov. 30:5)

Your Servant, Brother, and Friend,

Jon
